Downtown
Central Library
Located on a prominent
corner in Downtown Evansville, this library project incorporates
an existing three-story historic building, which houses administrative
offices and a public meeting room. The 100,000 square foot limestone-clad
new wing has two floors that include collections in open stacks,
public service areas, computer labs and staff work areas.
A cafè opens
onto a large courtyard and a children's imagination area opens
onto a children's garden. Ample seating in the reading areas includes
intimate bay window nooks. Parking for 200 was accomplished on
this urban site by providing 140 spaces below grade. Twin entry
pavilions serve equally those arriving by car and by foot and lead
to a central double height atrium space.
